Getting Your Home Ready

Getting your home ready takes effort on your part as well as mine! Here is how we get started:

Home Tour and Punchlist

When I first tour your home I will go through room by room, noting what buyers are going to love about each space and what should really be addressed before your home goes on the market. You and I will make a plan together to determine how each item needs to be handled. For example, if you have a bedroom with closet doors that are broken or missing, that might be a fix you can handle or you may prefer to call in a professional. I have a number of professionals who can be called in to help.

Clearing the Space

Some may also call this decluttering, but it is the act of getting rid of everything that doesn’t enhance the space. If it draws attention away from your home (like a bean bag chair that your teen uses in a living room otherwise filled with nice furniture or a counter full of makeup), then I suggest it is put away or stored elsewhere (such as in a storage locker) for the duration of the listing.

I also recommend that all valuables and medications are stored in a safe place.

Staging

Once the home is almost ready to be listed, I will bring in my stager for consultation who may recommend arrangement of the furniture and accessories in such a way that the spaces and great features of your home are enhanced. It is important to know that staging and decorating are very different things, and even the most carefully-decorated homes need to be staged for sale.
